Bummer Theatre

I have an old cartoon from the New Yorker in a scrapbook - it's Roz Chast and it shows a TV set that's saying "Welcome to Bummer Theatre! Every week something else that's not so hot happens!" In the next panel a man is looking from the TV and saying, "Well, I guess we're going to have to sell the farm." I love this cartoon. I love Bummer Theatre. And right now, I'm in it, drinking black coffee and smoking cigarettes and shaking because I am not, quite honestly, doing real well lately, so I made a mix CD from some random mp3s that were floating around my computer and uploaded it and if you would like them than here, for the next week only, they are. You will note that the Cranberries, Linger, is on this mix because it is one of my favorite bum out tunes but I have to say that if I ever find the person who decided to put it on heavy rotation at Ingles supermarkets, their life will not be happy for some time. I just went to the store and got ambushed by it yet again and this is not, alas, the first time this has happened and I hate it when it happens, argh, because I do not want to get all snuffly eyed in the fucking egg aisle.

Note: Click on the picture and it will become large enough to read the setlist so you can decide if you want this ginormous file or not.

you're pretty brave for having admitted to the cyberspace public that #17 is on your PC, although the Jello Biafra almost makes up for it. almost.

I got over apologizing for my taste in music some time back. Hell, I have Cheap Trick I Want You to Want Me on my PC as well - that's much more embarrassing than Soul Asylum.

Linger is playing at Ingle's? That does suck!

I was at Sears recently with my five-year-old and he stopped dead and said, "Listen, Mommy, it's Tangled up in Blue!" It was, albeit the elevator version, playing in fricking Sears!

I listened to your bummer mix today at work. It got to the Smiths song and I couldn't help sort of singing along. Really it was more of a droning along. That song is so depressing. Takes me back to a time when I was in a pit of despair, so I'm not going to be listening to that any more. It's hard to resist though since I can see the pit from here. Anyway, the droning caused a severe reaction from my officemate who was holding her ears and giving me dog commands like "STOP!" "LEAVE IT!" etc. Even after I stopped, she said she cold still hear it in her head...

Ah good, my mix has done its work. I love the Smiths - I can never believe it when people say they're drone-y. Your officemate is first up against the wall when the emo revolution comes. Unfortunately, of course, we'll all be too busy moaning about our angst to actually get anyone up against a wall so we'll be easy to beat back -
