Thanks so much, y'all, for all the kind comments and the sweet emails and the flowers and food and so on and so on. I am blessed and humbled and very, very grateful.
This is, I think, the best of the internet. Without it, I wouldn't have been able to keep in touch with so many old friends and I wouldn't have met so many new friends. I'm deeply touched that you are all kind enough to share your sympathies and thoughts with me and with my family. There's a whole community here and, well, words fail me.
I haven't been able to write much over the last few days; I'm kind of wiped out but I have been reading here and there and, just, thank you. Thank you all so much.

Oh Fliss - I am so sorry to hear about your mother. Losing a parent is so difficult. I look at her picture that you posted, and she looks so vivacious and alive; it is hard to fathom that all of that energy can be gone so quickly.
Please know that you are not alone in your loss, even though it feels as though the night is only dark for you.

My mother was, too. I lost her in 2001 in a totally unexpected way. She was 71, and I thought she would be around until I died (okay..a little unrealistic there..but still.....)
I am now 50, and I miss her every single day. Do I think about her every single day? Not so much....but I recognize her absense, if that makes any sense.
I miss you, Fliss. Please feel the warm and loving feelings I am trying (quite possibly unsuccessful) to send.
I understand the grief. I can feel it.
