The Cops Just Came By

So this cop just appeared at our door. He wanted to know who was sitting in the passenger seat of my car an hour and a half ago, at the Arby's on Patton and Florida. We called A's boyfriend J to the door, since he was the culprit. Turns out that he flipped off the Arby's, which he has a grudge against, and the cop, who was sitting inside the Arbys at the time thought that HE was being flipped off, so he spent the last hour and a half running my tags and tracking us down.

Don't Asheville cops have anything better to do? Is there no crime in this city? I mean, since when did flipping off a fast food joint become a crime? I grant you that it was a tacky and somewhat unpleasant thing to do (please note that I don't endorse this use of the middle finger in most circumstances) but criminal? Worthy of police notice? Weird and unsettling.

Yeah, I'm really glad the cops had the time to do that between Arby's and NOT showing up/having any record of my friend Jason's truck being stolen when it mysteriously turned up in a gravel parking lot offa 240 last night. He ended up just driving it home since the keys were still in it and he was tired of waiting for/dealing with said cops on the phone. Yeah -- he's the guy whose truck was stolen from Cox on gloeious election night. But, regardless, we're glad he got the truck back.

Sure, hon, novelize it all up the wing wang. ;-)

I'm glad your friend Jason got his truck back! Less glad, however, to hear that the cops had no record of it being stolen - I mean, jesus, WTF? That's alarming on a whole bunch of levels.

If this tale is in fact true, the action of the officer 'running' your plates was simply an overbearing act of domination, although, not illegal. However, the officer's intent and action of venturing to your home IS illegal, a fact which he, himself, probably didn't realize...Or, maybe he did realize it and simply didn't care. In any event, the officer should, at the very least, be reprimanded for that action if not terminated from public service as a result of it. In the interest of keeping your cummunity secure, equal and free, you should immediately consult a lawyer to look into this crime. I can assure you that monetary damages for cases like these are awarded to citizens like yourself on a daily basis around the country.
